I was one of the many people who got up early on 9-9-99 and waited outside the mall at 7am for them to open the doors so I could get my hands on a Dreamcast and a copy of Soul Calibur. I'll never forget how impressed I was once I got it home and played it on my own television for the first time. It became the title I used to show the DC off to all my friends. Six months later I had convinced several friends to purchase a DC. Four years later.......

Here we are with the release of Soul Calibur 2. I gotta say it was worth the wait. This isn't a review so I'm not going to go into to much detail. Let me just say that this is best fighter available. And while it may not have such a dramatic, jaw dropping impact that the first one had, it still keep me entertained as much if not more. Great graphics, deep gameplay, a deep single player experience, tons of unlockables, beautiful music, and more than enough fighters to choose from all come together to make it well worth the purchase. Grab a friend or two and some beers and this game will keep you entertained all Saturday night. Beer is optional of course. :P

Anyway, I was neither let down or blown away by Soul Calibur 2. I knew it was going to be great and I got exactly what I expected. I hope to see Xbox Live support in SC3, but for now I'm completely happy with what Namco gave us. Pure polished weapon based fighting bliss. :)

It seems like Soul Calibur took the easy road with a minor upgrade. that is fine if you are EA. I guess that is fine also when the 2 of the consoles you are coming out on are starved for great fighters. cough Gamecube cough xbox cough

The game is a good game. I just hope Sega realizes that they need to release Virtua Fighter on all systems and start bringing the competition back in fighting games all over.

If you love fighters then definately get Soul Calibur II.

I was playing the GC version last night and my wife is on her way home with the XB version (so I can check out the full audio glory) but I have to say....The Dreamcast was a killer console. Sure there are things here that the DC may not have been able to do but wow that was 1999. I can not believe what my favorite console was capable of in comparison.

That said I had a good experience with the GC version and I am expecting the same from the XB version. Not a purchase in my eyes though even though the Sword mode seems deep enough to make any fighting fan happy I just don't get into one player fighting games any since this isn't online that is what it is for me.

Great game though. I will be renting the new VF4 for PS2 to see if it stacks up.

I still need to pick this game up. I haven't played the first one in ages!!!

Sucks that I'm in school, because I really don't have much time for games. :(

May the Gaming Gods (or at least SEGA) hear you!! SEGA needs to multi-port their games to all consoles and Virtua Fighter 4 is one of those games I would kill for on XBox.

Isn't it great that you can tell the DC was waaaaay ahead of its time? There hasn't been a significant leap in graphics since 9-9-99! LOL. That will always be the benchmark for me...my jaw dropeed to the floor when I booted up SC that fateful day.

I think that the leap in graphics between SC and SCII is significant. Sure SC was great for it's time, but of course almost 4 years on it's sequel blows it out of the water. The difference in texture, detail and lighting effects is immense.
