Looks like PowerVR technology might be making a comeback.... it's currently powering the Samsung GalaxyS to the tune of 90M triangles/sec, as opposed to the about 20 available on the iPhone 3GS and Snapdragon-powered Androids.

Not sure if I see a need for that kind of horsepower on what is still a phone, but a) I get a kick out of seeing PowerVR still being used, and B) who knows where this takes us. Maybe there are some real games to be played, instead of the stupid Farmville-type crap that pervades the phone and online game scene.

Update: looking things up on Wikipedia, it seems that PowerVR is the de-facto standard for phone graphics. Neat-o - pretty insane though the power that's currently sitting in a little handset. In comparison, the DC could only achieve 7M triangles/sec.

Fun statistics- but not a fair fight is it?

Snapdragon: 1GHz 512MB RAM vs.
Dreamcast CPU: 128-bit Hitachi SH-4 RISC processor (200MHz 360 MIPS) w/ 16MB of segmented RAM

Definitely not. But it's always fun for me to see exactly how far we've come....

Agreed. I'm just disappointed instead of creative ways to add input devices into phones we shoehorn the controls into terrible on screen touch only interfaces. Just because something sells for $4.99 doesn't mean the audience thinks it's good. These games are cheap and available- shame with all that horsepower, and beautiful screens they can't seem to find a way to integrate better controls. When you have a choice of buying a $4.99 game on a phone or a $30 one on DSi or PSP, it's no wonder mobile gaming is stealing marketshare- but we need better ideas than the Ngage to make these games truly fun on the go on a phone.
