So that's the good part- the bad? Just like Army of 2 40th day and other demos- if no one is playing in an online game w/ an open slot- you cannot get online to play. Why do we have this trend of demos these days when the demo goes online only a few weeks before the game is sold? I can't play AvP until i see one of you online to play along with? Which means I guess I'll NOT buy this game either as I can't see the part of the game I really want to try- online co op/single player. Multiplayer demos are fun and appreciated- but this new batch that often result in "no games available at this time" completely defeat the purpose of a demo.

So has anyone played this? What do you think? Do you want to get some demo action on this weekend? send me a live invite.

So has anyone played this? I really don't like the idea of downloading steam so haven't DL'd this on my PC and my 360 has been mothballed for months now I can't be bothered getting it out of the cupboard :S

I am hearing some BAD things about this game...like the predator is underpowered and start with no weapons in MY games not to mention how slow it is.

Anyone?

I was super excited that they were gonna reboot this franchise into the next gen. But after I played the demo.... I am sorely disappointed.

The graphics and gameplay still seemed old. All that you could play in the MP demo was "Deathmatch" (which I personally cannot stand Free For All), which I believe was stupid if you want people to get a good impression on gameplay. And with only one map, game mode and no tutorial on controls and game mechanics, its pretty lame.

For me, its just screamed rental.

I'm with you here. played it for 20 minutes one go of each race it was shit. Instead of focusing on the characters and role play they just made it feel like doom with AVP skins.

And aliens killings aliens, preds killing preds? lol. silly demo. This game is a SP game experience I think and if they'd have made the demo based on that i'd probably have bought it. now as Ross says: Rental.

What happened to you Rebellion :(

I had a lot of fun with the game. I like most of the weapons and sounds, though I think the shotgun isn't loud enough. The graphics are ok not mind blowing though. That being said, a lot of MP demos only give you deathmatch mode. Would've been nice if there was a team VS mode but this was only a demo.

Speaking of the shotgun, when I played as a Marine and was running around the labs (lowest level on the map), I realized how shit it was. Most, if not all weapons have a secondary fire, so I opened up both barrels at once on another colonial Marine's head.... after I already raked him with a single shot before that. And of course, he didn't die. I think that was when I turned the game off.

lol. Those kinds of physics died with the dinosaurs! heck; in the first PC AVP game you had to literaly get headshots or the aliens would sluaghter you! What a terrible step backwards from rebellion.....can you say cash-in :(

Anyway for those who don't kow this got 54% odd in gamespot. Wow.

I believe Game Informer gave it a 5.5 as well.

What a shame.

"Sound: Listening to aliens crawl through vents and jump out at you would be scary if your motion sensor wasn't constantly bleating in your ear the whole time."

"focus on stealth, limited melee, and linear level design made me want to hang up my hunter's dreds"

F*king clueless @sshats....

IGN UK gave the game a 8.5 btw...

Single player campaign looks awesome.

I don't truly care about scores from most places/sites, but the demo is indication of multiplayer dogshit.

I'll be picking this up sooner or later. My expectations are now lowered, but reviewers do seem to prefer grading games based on a bunch of bullet points rather than saying how engaged they were in the experience and whether they wanted to continue playing. Things like visual weaknesses, a lack of unlockables, and how similar it is to Modern Warfare are all secondary.

Damn it! I forgot to remove this game from my GameFly rental queue and now it's in the mail - headed towards my home! What do I do now? :help:

I was hoping for better, but these review scores aren't surprising considering the metacritic scores for other recent Rebellion PC/console titles:

Rogue Warrior (2009): 29
ShellShock 2: Blood Trails (2009): 40
PDC World Championship Darts 2008 (2008): 51
Wii: The Simpsons Game (2007): 64

On the bright side, at least Aliens vs. Predator starts an upwards trajectory! ;) What is the most recent Rebellion title that didn't suck? Rogue Trooper? Maybe Sniper Elite? It's been a while ...

Aliens vs. Predator - quick impressions:

With the 360 version - Played through a few missions with predator. Didn't get a good sense of what was going on; not much of a story being told - So I started the marine campaign. Right away it became clear that the marine campaign is best played first. The alien and predator campaigns then reveal various parts of the story from different perspectives. It was interesting how things started coming together, but don't expect a plot worthy of even a mediocre Alien or Predator film.

Marine campaign was decent; above average, but not great. I don't recall any especially memorable moments. And the ending is weak sauce - not much more than a setup for a sequel. Moving on to the alien campaign - After getting the hang of the controls, I was beginning to really enjoy playing as the alien. The controls for walking on walls/ceilings are kinda janky and inconsistent, but creeping through the dark and using sneaky tactics to take down marines is really fun.

I didn't finish the alien / predator campaigns or play any multiplayer - simply because Bad Company 2 showed up. A short with that game and I knew I wasn't going back to AvP anytime soon. If AvP had been released 5, 4, maybe even 3 years ago, it might have been an notable title, but I think FPS games have made some decent progress in recent years and AvP just doesn't do enough to stand out. Still, I think some of the 5.x and 6.x reviews are being a bit too hard on the game.

Thx for the great impressions- kinda what I figured after seeing the videos. Still, I may get this if in the bargain bin- which it sounds like it may be headed there after all these dismal reviews.
