I have previously heard the rumors/theories about Arthur C Clarke having been told by government agencies to make the story of 2001 specifically for the subsequent movie by Kubrick to bring this to the masses. I've always liked this mythical theory because of my fondness for that movie, and the very heavy implications of finding another key to our own further evolution. Even if the story is just an allegory to further exploring space to gain insight about the workings of the greater universe, I feel a connection to it.

Anyway, either that really happened or Aldrin is losing his mind:

Just keep in mind that whatever Aldrin's mental state: Buzz Aldrin > every one of us mortals. :D

Watch yourself.

It could have been sweeter only if he would have jumped on him after the punch for a submission or some ground and pound.

What does that prove, he's crazy? I don't think so. If somebody called you a liar and a coward, and you went to the freaking moon, you should have the right to beat the ass of that person. At least, I would support a constitutional amendment that protected such an ass-kicking as a right of any astronaut that made such an amazing feat in human history. Its monumental.

GordoSon, I was posting that because I was proud, at his age, he just kicked some dumb punks ass. Dude, I love SciFi, Universe, Astronomy mag, NASA docs, Shuttle launches on HDNET and all that jazz. Buzz is the man.

:noproblem:

Don't forget this incredible Buzz Lightyear interview by Ali G:

It amazes me how composed Aldrin is, compared with most of Ali G's (Cohen's) victims. He starts to explain things like he is talking to a child. :chuckle:

He questioned the validity of the moon landing.

One must remember that most Astronauts from that time period were military folk prior to that assignment. American Fighting Men don't play dat, homie. Especially not the ones from the Navy. Instant uncapped can o'whip-ass... Comin' right up!

Right and they we're all test pilots. It's really fucking crazy if you think about who these men were and all the risk they took. I would seriously want to fuck that guy up that got in Buzz's face if I was there. I wouldn't care if I got arrested. Anyone who thinks the landing was fake is a total dumbass. Don't you think the USSR monitored every single step Apollo 11 took? Sorry to rant, but I wish people that ignorant shouldn't be allowed to reproduce.

Anyway, I don't think he said anything crazy. He simply said, how did that get there, who put that there and let's go have a look. He is a explorer and wants the human race to care about it. It's so unfortunate for us that the space program is not that important or financed more. One thing I have noticed though lately is a lot of advancements made in telescopes are specifically being used to look for Earth like planets. That is exciting to me, we're looking for life now and we have the ability to know if a planet could support the requirements based on our own amazing string of coincidences or created that makes our planet so unique.

I was recently camping in the Adirondacks in upstate NY - Zero light pollution. Man did I wish I had a telescope. The Milky Way looked so different and visible(beautiful). When you think of the big picture it's almost impossible to comprehend what's really going on out there when we look up at the sky. I hope, HOPE, something as big or even bigger as the moon landing happens in my time before I die. The rovers we're pretty damn cool, but I want more.

The Hubble deep field never ceases to amaze me. I can't wait to see what they do with the upgrades. Someday, maybe even with the upgraded Hubbble, they're going to catch something that's going to really blow our minds.

Here's a pic of the 'monolith':

Not that exciting when you see the actual shape of the rock.

That's fantastic. I love that picture.

Speaking of the Hubble, there's several new pictures and information on the Hubble site: http://www.nasa.gov/hubble

It's all really cool stuff if you're into that sort of thing.
