Here it is, the birthday console itself, on its pedestal.

It really is the best looking console of all time. The only thing it lacked to compete through last gen was a second analog stick, IMO.

Mostly I miss games with brilliant colors. Its like Dreamcast games had a certain look to them all, from Hydro Thunder to Shenmue. Looking back, its weird that even the 3rd party games had the DC look. I guess it was just a product of its time. Whats more of a shame, since SEGA has become a software-only company, they have never managed to recreate a consistant "SEGA-look". They are now nothing but a name. (waits for TA to come in and ask me how I can complain when VF5 isn't on my Gamer Card) :P

At this time ten years ago I had an Asian Dreamcast already. I had received my first US Dreamcast days earlier, direct from SEGA to review games for GameSages.com. It was that initial batch of games that were burned incorrectly so I couldn't play Sonic Adventure. Loved playing NFL2K that first week though. My friends all went wild over Ready 2 Rumble and Soul Calibur. Pure. Awesome. Greatness.

Nice photo. Still some of my best gaming memories with Dreamcast -especially as it was my intro to online gaming! That was a FAST ten years BTW.

Allow me to disagree on a few issues ;) :P

1st off , The DC while it looks stunning , its no Multi Mega or WonderMega (the 2 best looking consoles ever made imo) I while i love my DC , I can't help but feel its overrated , its not even in the same league as the Saturn imo . Not just the best SEGA console , but hands down the best console ever made full stop

And I'm not sure if you must have read my spot on another board , because the SEGA look is sadly lacking as is the SEGA games . I'll just say that if you want that SEGA look and style onthe 360 . Get VF 5, OutRun Arcade, Virtual Tennis III , and Sonic Unleashed, and if you have a PS3 VAL .

I dunno, my dreamcasts each feel like tanks. Solid and dense. Look phenomenal.

Not a big fan of the looks of your WonderMega. Looks like something out of Clockwork Orange that you might stick a microcassette into.

Multi Mega = CDX? The CDX looks very nice. I just got cheap by that time and never snagged one.

The new buttons for the PS3 Slim look ridiculous. One of the cool things about the PS3 is it's alien knowledge that a finger is touching it rather than a cloth. Skimping on that and replacing it with two coat buttons makes the new console look absurd.

All that out of the way, the Dreamcast rocks. I still have piles of games I refuse to put into storage because they look so damned good on even the latest lcd/plasma screens. Both Sonics play far better than any new Sonics. Rayman 2 looks phenomenal. There's not been any good substitute for Crazy Taxi on the current gen. Talk about a game that demands XBLA/PSN play, but Sega treats its legacy so well.

I'd like to see a Dreamcast Legacy series on XBLA/PSN. The games can't be THAT big as I'm sure they put some filler on the discs as well.

The original Victor Wondermega is something you need to see in person to appreciate. Photos never quite do it justice.

I love the Dreamcast, and feel that it has a long list of significant achievements. First console to match the best arcade visuals of its time, last console to beat the best PC/home computer visuals of its time (at the Japan launch date anyway), and arguably the only one (the 3DO may be another, but it came in at a high price). First console to consistently push beyond the usual low-res graphics of its predecessors, and then go a step further by offering progressive scan or anti-flicker anti-aliasing for almost every game. First to get online gaming and browsing working without requiring an expensive peripheral to be purchased. First to offer a DLC and Virtual Console-like service (PC Engine and Megadrive games could be downloaded and played in Japan, for something like 300yen each). And with the GD-ROM format and 4 controller ports, there were no real steps backward compared to what came before it.

There's more, especially if you count software and controller innovations and ambition, but the credit for these would also go to the manufacturers and developers, rather than just the machine that enabled them.

I can see, and almost agree about the Saturn being better though :P The DC didn't manage to hold onto many significant exclusives in the end, while the Saturn did (although the Sega Ages releases on PS2 have eroded a few of them). Apart from lousy connections in the cartridge port, the Saturn is more robust. The Saturn's television output is a bit sharper in RGB. And with add-ons the Saturn probably boasted more functionality as well, like Video CD playback, and programming/word processing suites. Oh, and it's default controllers are generally better if you disregard the first western ones.

I will definitely play some games on it in honor of its birthday. I recently hooked it up to show my girlfriend Space Channel 5 (I don't remember why). Time to think of what to play!

I'll have to play something on my Dreamcast, to celebrate its 10th Birthday. Probably something like Crazy Taxi before jumping on my 360 to play Gears 2.

Happy Birthday Dreamcast! I still remember that day on 9/9/99 going to the local game store before work and telling them I wanted a DC, an extra controller since they wouldn't sell me two and one of each game they had. Best purchase ever. As Seaman would say "HMP!".

Happy Birthday, Dreamcast!!!

Happy Dreamcast Day, everybody!!!

Took the day off work to sit around and play DC all day. Thought I'd pop in for the day, and celebrate this festive event (belated funeral, your choice) with ma peeps.

BTW. This year, SEGA is bringing the presents.
