Prepare for seriously great news: My friend was telling me the latest issue of OXM has info + pics of an upcoming HD remake of Serious Sam for Xbox Live Arcade. The screenshots look incredible and there is mention of online co-op play.

Has anyone seen these pics posted online?

Pictures are in the new Xbox Magazine. - Not very big pics- but looks better than a straight port - that is obvious.

That video was awesome.

For those who never played SS, game has no story and is just pure shooting. Didn't it start as a tech demo?

Have you ever played Robotron or Smash TV? Well make them FPS's and you pretty much get the basic idea.

Robotron or Smash TV? I guess.... but a better example would be Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Unreal, Quake, Wolfenstein, or any classic FPS for that matter. It's a straight up shoot anything that moves FPS.

He could already figure out it is a first person shooter. I mean the video kind of gives it away by showing it. What makes Serious Sam not like the ones you listed is that SS doesn't care for story and/or puzzles that much. What it does care about is sending waves of billions and billions of wacky enemies at you like Smash TV and Robotron.

Well just remove Wolfenstein and Unreal from my list and there you have it! Doom, Quake, and Duke Nukem 3D were all about sending waves of enemies with little if any regard for story. What Smash TV and Robotron do is lock you in a small room sending waves of enemies until you move on to another small room. I just didn't see it as a very good comparison to Serious Sam when explaining to someone what it's similair to. No offense. Serious Sam is pretty much a superior Duke Nukem 3D clone. Especially with it's sense of humor.

Shadow Complex should have already done that.

Have you ever even played SS Dirk? At first I thought maybe you have trouble grasping allusion but now I wonder if it is also general ignorance of the game.

Is it just me or is it getting hot in here? :chef:

To me, the ironic title defines this game: Serious Sam. This game should not be taken seriously at all. Ridiculous enemies, over the top weapons, silly easter eggs and a great sense of humor. Gotta love a game that's not afraid to make fun of itself and its genre.

The Wikipedia entry for Serious Sam currently states:

Wikipedia said:

Apparently The First Encounter was originally developed by Croteam as a demonstrator for their engine and this is the reason why some countries saw its initial release priced at less than half the value of other games in the genre.

Wikipedia said:

Croteam created their own engine for use in both First Encounter and Second Encounter. Named the "Serious Engine", it is designed to cope with extremely large view distances and massive numbers of models, unlike most FPS engines which are developed for a limited draw distance and only a few animating models (i.e. enemies) on screen at a time: it is very efficient, capable of maintaining dozens of moving enemies (often stampedes) even on a modest system challenging the well known id Tech, Unreal or Source engines.

I love me some Serious Sam stampedes. Looking forward to charging in to many many many stampedes on Xbox Live. :guns:

Yep, I own it. Anyway, no reason to start an argument over something so petty as game comparisons. I honestly don't care enough to go on about it.

A. Because I disagreed with your comparison of Smash TV to Serious Sam
B. Because I was bored
C. Because I was curious as to what your rebuttal would be.
D. Because I was hoping the argument would bring me to a point where I could answer one of your questions using this A,B,C,D layout of answers.

Now that my mission is complete I can go back to anxiously awaiting the release of Serious Sam.

Why ask why? There are so many other questions to ponder... Who are you? What do you want? Who do you trust? And... Whom do you serve? Where are you going?

"What Smash TV and Robotron do is lock you in a small room sending waves of enemies until you move on to another small room."

Yup! What Serious Sam does is lock you into incredibly huge areas with fabulous vistas from horizon to horizon filled chock full of enemies both on the ground and in the air raining hellfire, nuclear waste and enchanted body parts in your general direction until you move on to another expansive venue with more of the same. It's great!
